Shipyard Serves

Shipyard serves more than just great beer. Our crew helps build a stronger community by volunteering, assisting non-profits, supporting local businesses, and committing to green initiatives.

Investment in our communities is just one way we demonstrate our commitment to being a good corporate citizen. Every month, our staff has the opportunity to volunteer for non-profits that are personally meaningful to members of our crew. Recent volunteer hours include helping Habitat for Humanity, Preble Street Resource Center, and Special Olympics.

Annual Events

We sponsor many events in our community including our annual Shipyard Old Port Summer Fest, the Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon, Portland Trails’ Trail to Ale 10K and Columbus Day Lobster Bake fundraiser at Federal Jack’s in Kennebunk. Keep your eye on our Blog and Events Calendar for other events we support.

In addition to staff time, we contribute to non-profits throughout our community, including:  Portland Trails, the Maine Cancer Foundation, MS Society, Candace Cares, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Red Cross, Pine Tree Society, Goodwill Industries, Share Our Strength, and many others.

We continuously strive to advance our brewing process and reduce our use of water and utilities through investment in energy efficient equipment and have been recognized by Efficiency Maine for our commitment to doing so.

  • We separate yeasts and solids so they don’t go down the drain
  • We send our spent grains to local farmers to use as feed for livestock
  • We separate and recycle glass, aluminum, paper and plastic
  • We are proud partner of Garbage to Garden, and have reduced our waste by composting
  • We support Terraly, an organization with a mission to turn every glass of beer into clean drinking water around the world

Come see how we brew it! We offer free daily tours and tastings and, for the true beer geeks, a Shipyard Brewing Vacation.

Join My Bike MS Team

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Fred Forsley here. You might know me as the co-founder and president of Shipyard Brewing Company. What you might not know is, I’m someone who has been affected by the disease multiple sclerosis. I grew up watching my mother live with MS and let me tell you, she NEVER let it hold her back. Agnes Forsley was a dynamic, kind, giving person. She was a wife, mother of five, and even ran a boarding house for military veterans.

She never let MS define her.

Neither does my brother Richard, who was diagnosed with the disease about 30 years ago.

Thursday, May 14, 2015

Shipyard Brewing Company and Sea Dog Brewing Company have partnered with the crew of Scuba Nation to support Lionfish Awareness Day on May 16 through various events taking place across the state of Florida. The state wide effort is aimed at eradicating this invasive species of fish that is wreaking havoc with Florida’s native species.

Shipyard and Sea Dog’s commitment to sustainable seafood and efforts to give back to the communities that support us continues beyond this day in mid-May. Scuba divers are doing their part to catch this fish — and now we’re doing our part to help bring this fish to the table.
