Smashed Pumpkin Takes 2nd at the Great International Beer & Cider Competition

Our fall seasonal, Signature Series Smashed Pumpkin, received an award at the prestigious 19th Annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition held on Friday, October 23, 2015, in Providence, Rhode Island. Smashed Pumpkin placed 2nd in the Strong Ale Category.

Our sister brewery, Sea Dog Brewing Company, received a 3rd place award in the Fruit/Spice Beer Category for their Blueberry Wheat Ale. View the full list of award-winners here.

Six hundred eighty beers and ciders from breweries and cideries from across the US and around the world entered the competition. One hundred-twenty professional brewers, beer industry professionals and beer journalists acted as judges in a blind tasting format. First, second and third place awards were presented in 59 categories of ales, lagers and ciders.

Smashed Pumpkin is a big-bodied beer with a light orange copper color and pleasing aroma of pumpkin and nutmeg.  Pale Ale, Wheat and Light Munich malts combine with the natural tannin in pumpkin and the delicate spiciness of Saphir and Hallertau Hops to balance the sweetness of the fruit.
